ICALP/LICS social events

Welcome Reception: Tuesday, July 10, 8 pm

Will be held in Oratorium Marianum, one of the rooms of the baroque Main Building of Wrocław University.

Excursion: Wednesday, July 11, 2.30 pm – 10.45 pm

We will first go to a nearby town of Świdnica (50 minutes drive), and visit Church of Peace, a 17th century wooden temple, listed by UNESCO as one of "World Heritage Sites". It was built after the 30 years war, according to a treaty which allowed the Silesian Protestants to only raise some fixed number of wooden churches, but did not limit the size of the constructions. It is not hard to guess that it is the biggest wooden building most of you have ever seen.

Then, after another 20 minutes bus ride we will reach a meadow in the foot of Ślęża mountain. A picnic will be held there. But first you will have 2 hours for a little hike to the top of Ślęża (the elevation of the summit is 350 meters above the parking place). Neither being very steep, nor very high, Ślęża is the only hill in Lower Silesia, so from the concrete tower on the top one can see everything around within the distance of 80 km.

Ślęża was considered a holy mountain by the Celts who lived here over 2000 years ago (as we said — the area is flat, so those poor people had no better choice), and some Celtic artefacts can be spotted there (some claim that a huge stone sculpture of a bear on the top is also Celtic). At 10 pm the buses will depart to Wrocław.

Cocktail party in the Town Hall: Thursday, July 12, 7.30 pm

The gothic Town Hall, located in the middle of the Market Square (Rynek) is definitely must-see. The mayor, not quite as old as the town hall, is worth seeing, too (do not worry, the speeches he gives are usually very short). Snacks and drinks will be served.

Michael O. Rabin's honorary PhD ceremony: Friday, July 13, 5.30 pm – 6.30 pm

Accompanying persons

Organizers will sell tickets for ICALP/LICS social events for accompanying persons at the registration desk during the conferences. Price of a ticket covering all the events is 65 €.
